Bob Marley: One Love ruled in its box office debut, beating expectations with $28.6 million over the traditional weekend and $52 million during the six-day holiday stretch.

The musical biopic Bob Marley: One Love resonated with North American audiences, securing the top spot at the box office with estimated earnings of $27.7 million. This excellent opening for a musical biography celebrates the iconic reggae singer’s rapid rise and enduring legacy. 

British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir portrayed Bob Marley, while Lashana Lynch played Rita Marley, and Marley’s son, Ziggy Marley, served as one of the film’s producers. The film’s success with audiences outshone its reception among critics. In contrast, the superhero thriller Madame Web debuted disappointingly, despite its $80 million production cost and meager 13% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It seems the days of effortlessly spinning off hit films from popular superhero characters are behind us.
