Sony
Pictures Television (SPT) has an exciting series to premiere on February 22.
They’ve licensed the high-octane action series Twisted Metal to Hulu
Japan. This live-action TV series is based on the classic PlayStation game
franchise and promises a thrilling ride.
Across
APAC, this distribution agreement complements previously closed deals for Twisted
Metal with Stan (Australia), TVNZ+ (New Zealand), AXN (Korea), Coupang Play
(Korea) and Sony LIV (India). Globally, the series has been sold to Peacock
(USA), Paramount+ (Canada, UK), Max (CEE, Poland, LATAM), Prime Video (South
Africa, Benelux, Nordics), NOVA (Greece), and BeIN & TOD (MENA).
“We are
thrilled to partner with Hulu Japan to bring this unique adaptation based on
the iconic PlayStation game to audiences in Japan,” said Adam Herr, Senior Vice
President, Distribution, APAC. Twisted Metal has something for
everyone…it combines high intensity action with laugh-out-loud moments that are
entertaining and bingeworthy. This series has quickly become a fan-favourite
across the world and we can’t wait for viewers in Japan to join in on the fun.”
The show
follows a motor-mouthed outsider who’s offered a chance at a better life. The
catch? He must successfully deliver a mysterious package across a
post-apocalyptic wasteland. Along the way, he’ll encounter savage marauders
driving vehicles of destruction, including a deranged clown with an
all-too-familiar ice cream truck.
Cast
includes Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, and Thomas Haden Church. Creators:
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with writing by Michael Jonathan Smith.
