Warner Bros. International
Television Production (WBITVP) has made a significant move by acquiring its
first gay relationship format, titled Boys Like Boys. This
groundbreaking format was originally created by Portico Media for Taiwan’s
LGBTQ+ streaming platform, GagaOOLala. The series consists of ten episodes and
has garnered praise for its authenticity and genuine desire to help young men
find real romance.
In the show, eight young
gay men come together in a shared house for a week. They represent a diverse
mix of personalities and backgrounds. Throughout the week, they go on dates,
participate in games, and openly share their challenges and experiences as gay
individuals. Unlike many structured reality dating shows, there are no
manufactured drama or eliminations—just real reactions to genuine situations,
with the hope that true love might blossom.
Andrew Zein, WBITVP’s
Senior Vice President of Creative, Format Development, and Sales, expressed
enthusiasm for the format, stating: “As the producers and distributors of the
world’s leading and most loved dating franchises, it was going to take something
really special to get our attention, and Boys Like Boys is exactly that.
It has an authenticity and honesty we instantly fell in love with, and we hope
buyers will too. With its clear focus on romance, relationships, and
representation, Boys Like Boys could prove to be the first mainstream
global gay dating show.”
This move by Warner Bros.
marks a significant step toward greater inclusivity and representation in the
entertainment industry. By embracing diverse narratives and celebrating love in
all its forms, they contribute to a more inclusive and accepting media
landscape.
