Kenneth Mitchell, who played several characters in Star Trek: Discovery, and also was known for his roles in Jericho and Captain Marvel, has died from complications of ALS, his family revealed Saturday. By K Dass.
Kenneth Mitchell, the celebrated actor known for
his roles in Star Trek: Discovery and Captain Marvel, passed away
at the age of 49 after a 5 ½-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known
as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Despite the series of challenges, he
faced due to the disease, Mitchell managed to rise above each one with grace
and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment.
Born on November 24, 1974, in Toronto, Mitchell
rose to fame for his portrayal of the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as
well as Aurellio, on Star Trek: Discovery. He also played Joseph Danvers
in Captain Marvel. Beyond these iconic roles, Mitchell contributed to
other projects, including the hockey drama Miracle and appearances on
shows like Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, and Criminal Minds.
The entire Star Trek universe paid tribute
to Mitchell, expressing deep sadness over his passing. They extended their
condolences to Mitchell’s family, friends, loved ones, and fans worldwide. His
family remembered him as a hope seeker, dream believer, beach walker, and garden
grower, but most importantly, as a proud father. Mitchell is survived by his
wife, Susan, and their children, Lilah and Kallum.
In a poignant passage he shared, Mitchell expressed
his wish to be buried under the roots of a tree, so that he could be soaked up
by the earth, reaching up through the branches to touch the night sky. His
legacy as a talented actor and a courageous fighter will continue to inspire
many.
