Korea - Ellen Y. D. Kim has been appointed as the director of
the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), which serves as the industry
platform for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
Her four-year term
begins on Friday, March 8, 2024. Kim brings a wealth of experience, having
spent eight years as the program director at the Bucheon International
Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan). Notably, she played a crucial role in
establishing the ACFM in 2006. Her expertise spans film production, investment,
distribution, and global marketing. She has co-produced features like Cry
Woman (2002), Night And Day (2008), Hanaan (2011), and Sewing
Sisters (2020), launching them at international festivals.
BIFF’s statement
highlights her vision for the ACFM, including initiatives such as expert
governance representing the Asian film industry and a platform dedicated to
showcasing innovative technologies and content. This appointment marks the
first time an open recruitment process has been held to select the ACFM
director. The selection took place during BIFF’s general meeting, where the
agenda for this year’s business plan, budget, and the appointment of board members
were discussed. The festival continues its efforts to fill key positions,
including the hunt for a festival director for BIFF.
