Netflix Enters the Ring with Jake Paul and Mike Tyson

Netflix’s foray into sports is going in a new direction. The streamer announced that its next major event will be a fight between YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson that will stream live on Netflix. By K Dass.

US - Netflix is stepping into the ring with its first live boxing event, streaming this summer. The match will feature YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul facing off against professional heavyweight legend Mike Tyson. This heavyweight boxing mega-event will be streamed live exclusively on Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20123. 

The move is part of a steady expansion into sports from Netflix. So far, that has meant going all in on sports documentaries — including a doc about Paul’s fledgling boxing career — as well as a handful of live events featuring golf and tennis. But two headline (if controversial) names duking it out in an NFL stadium that seats 80,000 marks arguably the biggest bet from the company yet.

Mike Tyson, also known as Iron Mike, had an impressive career with 37 victories, 33 of which were achieved by knockout. He remains the youngest boxer to ever win a heavyweight title. Meanwhile, Jake Paul, who turned pro in 2020, has grown significantly as a boxer over the years. His journey from viral fame for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard to now facing Tyson himself is remarkable. This match promises to be an exciting clash between the ambition of a “kid” and the experience of a “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) in the boxing world.

This event marks Paul’s most anticipated fight to date and his second of 2024. His back-to-back sensational knockouts against professional boxers and Golden Gloves winners have garnered attention.
