TAICCA’s Efforts to Make Taiwan’s Film & TV Scene Global

TAICCA seeks to showcase Taiwan’s film and TV projects to international buyers and executives in the hopes of increasing sales and global influence. By Ching Wai.

Taiwan - The Hong Kong International FIlm & TV Market (FILMART) is happening from the 11 to 14 March. As Asia’s premier event for the film and television industry, FILMART stands as an  important platform for Taiwanese works to reach the global market. To encourage international exposure and sales of Taiwan television and film content, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) is partnering with the Taiwan Pavilion, allowing 92 companies to present 250 projects.

At the T-Content Showcase on 11 March, Taiwan’s spotlight projects Hello Marriage, Goodbye Love (the series), Haunted For Rent (an ongoing horror movie project), and Love On a Shoestring (a collaboration between Singapore’s media company Mediacorp and Taiwan’s TVBS channel) were exhibited together with the film crews and actors in attendance. Other projects presented include a new animation A-NEE-GU Fight The Imaginational Bugs from the award-winning My Little Boys - A-NEE-GU series, First Note of Love, A Girl Out of The Country, and Girls Win S2. The display of such great diversity of Taiwan’s film and television industry will help to propel it forward into the global market, as it provides the opportunity for local works to be exposed to international buyers and executives. 68 on-site exhibitors are also in attendance at the showcase.

Meanwhile, TAICCA is partnering with the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) to introduce the TAICCA Award. This award offers a monetary prize of USD $10, 000 and the chance to apply for TAICCA’s Creative Content Development Program Development Fund and the Taiwan International Co-funding Program. This is done in the hopes of encouraging and fostering more partnerships and co-productions between the global market and Taiwan’s film and television industry, as well as to increase Taiwan’s cultural impact on the global scene.

Ultimately, as Taiwan’s film and television works gain more exposure with the international market and scene from this event, it is fair to say that TAICCA’s hopes to generate sales and interactions can be realised.
