The adventure reality is expected to continue its high performance as it is set to run in the U.S. By Ching Wai.
US - Talpa Studios has partnered with Bunim/Murray Productions & The Natural Studios for the American adaptation of No Way Back. The latter two studios had recently produced I Survived Bear Grylls for TBS in the U.S., which was in high demand. This project, the first from Talpa Studios’ partnership with Signal.Stream, has received high praise. Not surprisingly then, this new adventure reality has received high ratings worldwide, and its high performance is expected to continue.
No Way Back sees Bear Grylls, a British former SAS trooper, lead sixteen contestants through a series of increasingly difficult challenges in the gruelling natures of Norway for twelve days. The contestants will have their limits and teamwork tested as they work towards the end with 100 000 Euros at stake. At the end of every stage, someone must choose to stay in a survival camp as others continue on. The camps are progressively worth more, and the contestants win the amount that the camp they stay in is worth. 50 000 Euros is given to those who complete the journey, but will be distributed to those in previous camps should no one finish. Contestants will have to decide between staying and securing some money, or risk trying to win more.
During its premiere in the Netherlands, the show achieved a market share peak of 17.3% among the key demographic of 25-59 and the best-ever ratings of any adventure reality show to premiere on SBS6. No Way Back continued to perform well throughout the season. Its finale was the most-watched episode with 811 000 viewers. With such amazing results, the show’s international debut can be set with no worries. As Julie Pizzi, the President of Bunim/ Murray, has stated, “[No Way Back] clearly resonated with Dutch viewers right out of the gate, and we expect it to do likewise here in the U.S., especially with someone as experienced in adventure as Bear Grylls onboard.”
Bear Grylls said, “I’m excited and proud to be bringing this show to new territories and reminding global audiences that the wild takes away, but it also rewards… Get ready for the adventure!” John de Mol, the owner of Talpa Studios, also stated, “we are excited to now bring No Way Back… to the world’s most significant TV market. [The show] with Bear Grylls… promis[es] an unparalleled adventure for both participants and viewers.”
