US - Amazon MGM Studios and online star MrBeast (who also goes by Jimmy Donaldson) has announced the development of a brand new reality game show titled Beast Games that will feature a US$5 million cash prize and exclusively premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
Donaldson, who is the most-followed individual creator on YouTube, is known for creating large-scale videos where he and his team give away large amounts of money or high-value items. Online, his videos usually rack up between 300-500 million views each.
Prior to Beast Games, the philanthropist, entrepreneur and YouTuber started his own brand of chocolate, Feastables, and fast food brand MrBeast Burger. The social media star had also previously organised two fundraisers in the past, Team Trees and Team Seas, in addition to launching the charitable organisation Beast Philanthropy.
Speaking about Beast Games, Donaldson said in an interview on the podcast The Colin and Samir Show that “It’s like our normal videos, but just 20 times better.”
“[Beast Games] will probably be six-plus hours of content, where my normal videos are 20 minutes long. The character building, the storytelling, will be out of this world compared to our normal videos,” he added.
The record-setting game show is set to feature a US$5 million cash prize, the largest in television and streaming history, overtaking the US$4.56 million prize of Netflix’s Squid Game (2021 - Present) reality show spin-off titled Squid Game: The Challenge (2023). Beast Games will also feature 1,000 contestants, up from 456 in Squid Game: The Challenge. Though not an official Netflix production, Donaldson has also previously created a game show recreation of Squid Game on YouTube in November 2021.
Beast Games, which currently has no set release window, will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
