Mediacorp’s Kisses from Death Premieres Regionally

Singapore’s new fantasy thriller drama has been released, and is promoted throughout Southeast Asia and online platforms. By Ching Wai.

Singapore - Kisses from Death is a new fantasy thriller drama (in English) by Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest content creator and national media network. It is the fourth collaboration between Mediacorp and Wattpad, and is produced by Viddsee Studios, a Singaporean production company that creates and markets original films and series. All eight episodes of the series are available for free on Mediacorp’s Youtube channel and mewatch, Singapore’s all-in-one video entertainment hub.

Mediacorp’s collaboration with Wattpad to adapt stories from their platform has seen a number of successful releases, including the media network’s first commissioned title Slow Dancing, and The Girl He Never Noticed. Kisses From Death is the fourth adaptation to come from the collaboration. The title was written by Singaporean author Aurora Yeo, and has a worldwide readership of 1.4 million on Wattpad.

Mediacorp had conducted a focus group discussion and decided upon the series due to its significant appeal to the youth demographic (aged 15-24), “particularly due to its captivating blend of mythology and mystery”. Such efforts for the production translate onto screen, with a twisting narrative coupled with alluring visuals, bringing out the eerie mystery that surrounds the characters. The pilot episode of Kisses From Death has also garnered over an impressive two thousand views on the Mediacorp Youtube channel.

Kisses From Death follows Addison as she kisses Damien at her birthday party to make her ex-boyfriend, Caleb, jealous. The kiss transports them into a supernatural realm where Daimien is revealed to be Death. Addison now has to play a set of games with her grandmother and friends to try to return to the worldly realm alive. The cast includes Cheryl Chou, Leo Consul, Alexander Yue, Sue Tan, Aaron Mossadeg, Xuan Ong, and Aimee Bradshaw. According to Mediacorp, the series is also being marketed across Southeast Asia, and on Wattpad and Viddsee platforms. Reception and reviews of the series remain to be seen.
