FIFA Opens UK Bidding for 2026 and 2030 World Cup Rights

Bidding for the UK media rights to the 2026 and 2030 FIFA World Cups have opened. By: Kritchanon Tan Kian Wei

UK - The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has opened tenders for UK media rights to the 2026 and 2030 FIFA World Cup, held in Canada, Mexico and the US in 2026, as well as Morocco, Portugal and Spain in 2030.

This comes after the global leading football body launched tenders for media rights to the aforementioned events in Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg in January, as well as other territories like France and the Kyrgyz Republic recently.

Submissions for UK bids will close on Monday April 29 2024 at 10am GMT. UK public broadcasters BBC and ITV previously secured the media rights to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with coverage split across both platforms in a deal worth around £2 million. However, the 2026 World Cup will have a record 48 teams and 104 matches, up from 32 teams in 2022, providing more inventory for broadcasters to purchase.

The 23rd FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 2026 in 16 cities across Canada, Mexico and the US, while the 24th FIFA World Cup will take place from June 8 to July 21 2030, and will mark the centennial World Cup competition.
