The Final Edition of MIPTV Draws to a Close

The 61st and final MIPTV successfully wrapped up, with news of the upcoming MIPCOM CANNES and MIP London announced. By Ching Wai.

France - The 61st MIPTV Spring International Television Market wrapped up in Cannes on 9 April. A total of 3537 delegates from 84 countries were in attendance, reported RX France, including over 1100 buyers and 135 exhibitors. Involved in the exhibitions were major studios and distributors who hosted stands on the show floors and pavilions covering 11 countries. Delegates from France made up most of the delegates, followed by the UK, the USA, Germany, Spain, Italy, Türkiye, China, Canada and Belgium.

This year’s conference programme that ran from Saturday to Wednesday had full attendance and featured keynotes, presentations, screenings, and summits focusing on areas like FAST, AVOD, AI and TECH. The programme saw the start of the pre-opening weekend of MIPDOC and MIPFORMATS and entertained documentary, factual and formats communities.

Entertainment division director at RX France, Lucy Smith, said at a wrap press conference, “We’re grateful to the international TV industry across generations, geographies and genres for their support of MIPTV over the last six decades. All our energies on the Croisette will now be solely focused on MIPCOM CANNES, and in delivering and growing the flagship international entertainment content market for the industry, starting with the 40th anniversary edition later this year.”

The 40th edition of MIPCOM CANNES will be held from 21-24 October 2024, and the 41st edition of the highly accredited entertainment market will take place from 13-16 October 2025.

Smith asserted, “MIPCOM Cannes is the most important and impactful event in the industry event calendar. It’s the flagship for us and the industry. We take our responsibility to deliver on that promise very seriously.”

The new multi-genre international MIP market MIP London is also set to happen from 24-27 February 2025 with a pre-opening on 23 February in London’s West End at the Savoy Hotel and IET London: Savoy Place.

“It’s been hugely exciting to share our plans for MIP LONDON with the international TV community over the last few days. The feedback has been beyond positive and encouraging and we look forward to sharing more in the coming months,” Smith added.
