Celebrity feuds have always captivated public interest, offering a glimpse into the tumultuous relationships of the rich and famous. Let's unravel the drama that unfolds when stars clash in the public eye. By Wee Yan Ling

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber 

The feud intensified and got caught in the limelight after fans deduced Hailey and Kylie Jenner were making fun of Selena’s laminated brows. After this, fans started calling Hailey and Kylie out as ‘mean girls’ and dug deeper into Hailey’s posts that insinuate she was imitating Selena’s behaviour or shading her. The drama took a turn for the worst as social media users began uploading TikToks to scrutinise Hailey’s behaviour.

With more TikToks being posted, more and more people got involved in to the drama, making them eager for what was happening between the two. This in turn led to the decline in Hailey’s following count on Instagram as the majority sided with Selena. Hailey was then suffering from an influx of hateful and distasteful comments from the public. Speculators also started to ma comparisons to the relationship Justin and Hailey share as opposed to Selena and Justin by analysing the discrepancies. This led to the public questioning of the couple's marriage as the majority of them were more fond of the Justin and Selena duo.

The feud that sparked between Selena and Hailey is testament to how grave of an issue speculation on social media can give rise to. The amount of people keeping up to date with the drama commensurates with how ugly the feud is and how wide the fan bases of the celebrities’ are as they constantly stay up-to-date with their latest news.

Britney Spears vs. Jamie Lynn Spears

During the start of 2022, the highly publicised rift concerning Britney and Jamie Lynn escalated. Britney took the step of unfollowing her sister on Instagram and during the same period, Jamie Lynn shared her side of the story on her relationship with her sister in an interview.

Jamie Lynn emphasised, "I've always aimed to be supportive, so any notion suggesting otherwise is entirely baseless." She added, "It was crucial for me to establish boundaries with my family, focusing on the family I've built, consisting of my husband and daughters."

In conjunction with the events, Jamie Lynn published a book titled “Things I Should Have Said”, which sparked a social media exchange between the two. Britney had accused Jamie Lynn of exploiting her experiences for the sake of her new book, claiming it was at her expense and that Jamie Lynn had never truly worked hard for her milestones. 

Jamie Lynn responded with, "I regret having to clarify, but my book does not revolve around my sister." She further explained, "I cannot alter the fact that we share the Spears name, and naturally, some of my life experiences involve her." On another occasion, Britney had called Jamie out for sharing baseless stories. One of which claimed that Britney had locked them both in a room with a knife. This gave rise to Britney’s attorney issuing a cease-to-decease order to her sister.

Taylor Swift vs. Kanye West

The conflict that took the world by storm unfolded when West bizarrely interrupted Swift during the 2009 MTV VMAs. As Swift had just won the Best Female Video award, West took the opportunity to assert Beyoncé should have been the rightful winner.

This dissension bled for more than a decade, inspiring both artists to create several songs addressing their discontentment towards the other. The tension culminated in Swift’s creation of her distinguished era in her career, marked by the “Reputation” album.

West’s spouse, Kardashian, stood up for him and released a video entailing Swift’s approval of the incident. This led to the Kardashians branding Swift as a “snake” which further aggravated the tension between them. Subsequently, Swift stayed away from the public eye for more than a year and released her album, “Reputation” when she came back into the scene. Her behaviour seemingly to confront the couple’s wrongdoing in her song, “Look What You Made Me Do.”
