Review: Downfall, the gripping series written and directed by the talented Patrícia Sequeira, immerses viewers in a web of political intrigue, power struggles, and personal turmoil. With its eight engrossing episodes, Downfall takes us on a journey through the hidden corridors of influence as one man fights to maintain his grip on power amidst mounting challenges.

At the centre of the series is Álvaro Vieira Branco, masterfully portrayed by Marco Delgado. Delgado's performance is nothing short of captivating, capturing the essence of a man teetering on the edge of ruin, desperately clinging to the remnants of his power. He brings a complexity and vulnerability to Branco, making him a character both detestable and oddly sympathetic. Delgado's nuanced portrayal allows viewers to delve into the moral quandaries and conflicting emotions that define Branco's journey.

Supporting him is Sandra Faleiro as Raquel Vieira Branco, Álvaro's wife, who struggles with the moral implications of her husband's actions. Valerie Braddell delivers a poignant performance as Maria de Lourdes Vieira, Álvaro's mother, torn between her love for her son and the sacrifices she must make for his defense. Afonso Pimentel shines as David Rebelo Morais, Branco's lawyer, who must navigate the murky waters of the legal system while attempting to keep his client afloat.

One of the series' strengths lies in its ability to explore not only the intricacies of political corruption but also the personal dynamics within the Vieira Branco family. The complex relationships between Álvaro, Raquel, and their children add layers of emotional depth to the narrative, highlighting the toll that power and deceit take on personal lives.

All in all, Downfall is a riveting and thought-provoking political drama that captivates from beginning to end. It serves as a stark reminder that even the mighty can be brought down, and that the pursuit of truth can come at a high price.
