The aim of the movie is not to depict Floyd as a saint but rather to show his human side with complexities whose death brought about a global revolution. The script describes the film as a “gritty drama” that concentrates on his life and the broader social milieu within which he lived besides the historical context of his death. By: K Dass.
US - A biopic titled Daddy Changed the World is
currently in the works, focusing on the life and legacy of George Floyd. His
daughter, Gianna Floyd, and her mother, Roxie Washington, are actively involved
in the project as executive producers. The project is set to be created by
Radar Pictures, Night Fox Entertainment and 8 Queens Film And Media
Productions.
Screenplay written by
Gregory R. Anderson, the gritty biopic will be about George Floyd whose murder
cause global distress and put the world to a stop. It is a film that traces his
life as well as tragic end which occurred on May 25, 2020 after Minneapolis
police officer Derek Chauvin killed him and stimulated global protests against
racial injustice and police brutality.
Chauvin was convicted
of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in
2021 and sentenced to over twenty years in prison in 2022 for violating Floyd’s
constitutional rights. Three others were also found guilty of related federal
charges.
The film aims to
capture the essence of George Floyd’s life and the impact of his tragic death,
which sparked a global racial reckoning and fueled the movement against police
brutality. While suffocating under the knee of a Minneapolis police officer,
Floyd repeatedly called out, “I can’t breathe,” a powerful slogan that became
synonymous with the racial justice movement.
The biopic will
portray Floyd not as a perfect person but as a father with human flaws, whose
death changed the world. It’s expected to be a gritty drama that sheds light on
the injustices faced by marginalised communities and inspires change for future
generations. Gianna Floyd expressed excitement about sharing the real, jovial,
and loving George Floyd with the world through this film, emphasising the need
for justice and equality. The film is still searching for a director, but its
production is underway, driven by a commitment to tell George Floyd’s story and
create a better future for all.
