Korea - South Korea’s Plus M Entertainment has successfully closed multiple distribution deals for its romantic drama Love In The Big City ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film, directed by E.oni and starring Kim Go-eun and Steve Sanghyun Noh, will be featured in the Special Presentations section of TIFF, which runs from September 5-15, 2024.

Love In The Big City has been sold to several key territories across Asia and Latin America. The film has been acquired by KDDI for Japan, Moviecloud for Taiwan, The Filmbridge for Mongolia, CJ HK Entertainment for Vietnam, Purple Plan for Singapore and Indonesia, Sahamongkol for Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos, Neofilms for Hong Kong and Macau, and Great Movies/A2 Films for Latin America. Additionally, Anuvu has secured worldwide inflight rights.

The film is based on Park Sang-young’s bestselling novel, which has been published in 20 countries and was longlisted for the 2022 International Booker Prize. The story revolves around a young woman, played by Kim Go-eun, who is often criticized for her outspoken and daring demeanor. She meets a man, portrayed by Steve Sanghyun Noh, who harbors many secrets. As they share their secrets and navigate their young adult years together, they confront a world full of prejudice.

Kim Go-eun, known for her roles in Exhuma, Guardian, and Yumi’s Cells, brings depth to her character, while Steve Sanghyun Noh, recognised for his performances in Pachinko and Soundtrack #2, adds complexity to the narrative. The film is produced by Showbox, Tale Farming, and Plus M Entertainment, and is set for a theatrical release in South Korea on October 2, 2024.

Japan’s KDDI highlighted the film’s appeal to female audiences, noting the growing interest in K-content driven by the popularity of K-dramas and K-pop. This strategic acquisition aims to cater to this enthusiastic demographic.

Love In The Big City is poised to make a significant impact at TIFF and beyond, showcasing the vibrant storytelling and cinematic excellence of South Korean cinema.
