Special Ops: Lioness Breaks Series Premiere Records

Taylor Sheridan's espionage thriller, Special Ops: Lioness, has taken the streaming world by storm with a record-breaking debut on Paramount+. By: Syahmi Zulqarnain

Premiered with two episodes, the series quickly claimed the title of the streamer's most-watched global series in its first 24 hours, surpassing the previous record set by Halo in March 2022.

The high-stakes drama follows Joe, portrayed by Zoe Saldaña, as she navigates the delicate balance between her personal life and her role as the CIA's frontline operative in the war on terror. Inspired by a real U.S. military program, the series delves into the Lioness Program, where Joe works undercover alongside Marine Raider Cruz, played by Laysla De Oliveira, to infiltrate the world of state terrorism and prevent the next catastrophic attack.

The first two episodes of Special Ops: Lioness not only premiered on Paramount+, but they also aired on Paramount Network over the last two weekends. The series saw exceptional success, garnering nearly 6 million viewers across both streaming and linear viewing on Paramount Network in the U.S., within three days of its release.

Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Paramount Media Networks & Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, lauded the series as "the #1 new scripted series of the year on cable and one of the highest performers of all time on Paramount+." The gripping narrative, masterfully crafted by Taylor Sheridan, struck a chord with audiences worldwide.

Domenic DiMeglio, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer of Paramount Streaming, highlighted the global appeal of Special Ops: Lioness, emphasising Paramount's strength in creating, producing, and marketing compelling content. Following the success of Special Ops: Lioness, Paramount Network also achieved a season high of 2.2 million viewers for the Taylor Sheridan series '1883,' underscoring the network's dedication to delivering exceptional storytelling.
