Denzel Washington showcased his enduring box office appeal over the Labor Day weekend, with The Equalizer 3 topping the charts by raking in $34.5 million from Friday to Sunday, as reported by Comscore. With the inclusion of Labor Day, Sony projects a four-day total of $42 million for the film, marking it as the second-highest Labor Day opening weekend in history.

While Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings still holds the crown as the undisputed Labor Day champion with $94.6 million as its four-day tally, this holiday typically doesn't witness blockbuster openings, unlike Memorial Day or Christmas. On the international front, The Equalizer 3 generated $26.1 million in revenue through Sunday, resulting in a global three-day total of $60.6 million.

The Equalizer 3 has received favourable reviews from both critics and audiences, affirming Denzel Washington's A-list status at a time when other actors of his stature have faced challenges. Notably, other franchise sequels from Hollywood heavyweights like Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones 4 and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7 during the summer had underwhelming performances.

The film reunites Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, who previously starred together in Man on Fire." Directed by Antoine Fuqua, this third instalment finds ex-CIA operative Robert McCall (Washington) embroiled with the Mafia in Italy, as he once again employs his lethal skills for justice.

Regarding the possibility of a fourth film, Fuqua mentioned, "I believe this would be it. We've both talked about it that way. But you never know! Obviously, if he wanted to do another one, I would as well, but I don't see it. But who knows?"
