BIFF organisers commended the 68-year-old Chow for his significant contributions to the local film industry and his pivotal role in propelling Hong Kong gangster cinema to global recognition.

The Asian Filmmaker of the Year is bestowed upon an individual or entity within the region that is recognised for making the most exceptional and influential contribution to the advancement of the Asian film industry and its cultural development.

The organiser enforced that Chow had pioneered the golden era of Hong Kong cinema and secured his position as a key player in “Hong Kong film noir” as a global genre. They said, “Chow’s versatile talent knows no bounds, encompassing action to melodrama and comedy and historical drama, and subsequently established him as the most sought-after actor in Asia.”

Chow has acted in more than 100 films since the start of his acting career, his notable works include The Story of Woo Viet, All About Ah-Long, God of Gamblers and many more.
