The Witcher Author Andrzej Sapkowski Brushes Off Netflix's Disregard for His Ideas

Andrzej Sapkowski, the mastermind behind The Witcher, reveals his experience visiting the Netflix series set and offering input, only to have his ideas overlooked. By: Wee Yan Ling

Andrzej Sapkowski, renowned author of The Witcher, disclosed about his heart-wrenching encounter with the Hollywood stereotype of writers being disregarded and neglected during his visit to the set of the Netflix adaptation of his fantasy novels. He had shared his experience in the interview in a YouTube channel Cerealkillerz at Vienna Comic Con. During his visit, Sapkowski said that none of his ideas end up getting used despite being active in providing input.

The writer expressed his amusement at the lack of reception to his input and shared, “The set was tremendous. Tremendous ... I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me." The author chuckled as he dismissed the experience with a nonchalant remark, saying, "It's normal. 'Who's this? It's a writer. It's nobody.’”

Sapkowski had published The Witcher in 1990 and had added eight more novels since. The tenth series is currently a work in progress. Despite the exchange, he stays pragmatic about the dynamics between writers and the entertainment industry.

In the meantime, Netflix is going ahead with the productions of the fourth season without Henry Cavill since he announced his departure before the season 3 premiere. Liam Hemsworth will step into the role of Cavill and become the new Geralt from season 4.
