Netflix Acquires Sundance Horror Film for $17 million Sale

It’s What’s Inside, a thriller movie that made its debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, has been bought by Netflix for $17 million. By: Dylan Low

The show will not be screened in theatres and will be available directly on the streaming platform at a later date.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Greg Jardin, It’s What’s Inside showcases a pre-wedding party that descends into an existential nightmare when an estranged friend shows up with a mysterious suitcase. The main cast are Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Devon Terrell, Gavin Leatherwood, Reina Hardesty, Nina Bloomgarden and David Thompson.

“On behalf of the cast, crew, and entire production team, we are absolutely thrilled that It’s What’s Inside landed at Netflix,” stated producer William Rosenfeld of Such, which funded and managed production. “Their commitment to championing bold and groundbreaking filmmakers like Greg Jardin remains unparalleled.”

Rustin star Colman Domingo was the executive producer for It’s What’s Inside, joined alongside Ulf Ek, Robert Kapp. Film producers were William Rosenfeld, Kate Andrews, Jason Baum and Raúl Domingo.

“We are so very proud that this is another feather in our cap as a production company,” Colman Domingo posted on Instagram before the film’s premiere in Sundance’s Midnight section. “You will never believe that this is [Jardin’s] debut!”

It marked the second biggest sale of the festival, accompanied by the Jesse Eisenberg-directed A Real Pain, which was bought by Searchlight Pictures for $10 million. Earlier in the week, Netflix acquired the documentary titled Ibelin, an emotional tale centred around a late Norwegian gamer.

CAA Media Finance negotiated the deal for It’s What’s Inside, in which Deadline first reported news of the agreed sale.
