If the deal is made official, it is anticipated to be priced in the seven-figure range. The acquisition was previously competitive with at least three companies contending for the project.

Daughters made its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it claimed the Audience Award in Documentary Competition and was named as the overall Festival Favourite. The production of the film spanned up to eight years.

In a review, Lisa Kennedy heaped praise on the film, stating that it adds “depth and dimension to stories of incarceration.” Kennedy further mentioned, “The film is rife with visually lyrical moments that connect viewers with the young ones’ sorrows, fears, insights and hopes. In the hands of the directors, cinematographer Michael Cambio Fernandez and editors Troy Lewis and Adelina Bichis, the documentary exercises the kind of compassionate attention that leaves room for the girls to be girls.”

The film was also seen to have garnered positive spotlight with a 100% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Producers of Daughters include Lisa Mazzotta, Justin Benoliel, Mindy Goldberg, Sam Bisbee, Kathryn Everett, Laura Choi Raycroft, James Cunningham. Paul Rachman featured as the co-producer.

Kerry Washington also joined as one of the executive producers of the documentary and made an appearance at the Sundance festival, alongside the filmmakers and cast members.
