Expansion of Deutsche Telekom and Netflix Partnership

The partnership between Deutsche Telekom and Netflix expands to more countries across Europe, announced the two companies on 7 March 2024. This will allow customers in these countries to access Netflix seamlessly. By Ching Wai.

Europe - Netflix and Deutsche Telekom agreed upon an international partnership back in the last quarter of 2017, which allowed Deutsche Telekom customers to patronise the services that the streaming site provides. Previously, EntertainTV (or “MagentaTV” as of Oct 2018, a TV product by Deutsche Telekom) customers in Germany and T-Mobile (a brand of telecommunications by Deutsche Telekom) users in Poland could access Netflix content as well.

Since then, the partnership has been progressively expanding across Europe. Now, as Deutsche Telekom and Netflix have announced on 7 March 2024, the partnership is expanding to Croatia and Hungary. This partnership seeks to improve the seamless entertainment experience for Deutsche Telekom customers, who can now access the wide variety of content that Netflix provides on their television. This will affect the Deutsche Telekom subsidiaries Hrvatski Telekom in Croatia and Magyar Telecom in Hungary. According to the Deutsche Telekom website, “[all their national companies in Europe] with an existing TV offering will introduce the benefits of this new partnership to their customers” throughout the year 2024. Through this partnership, the companies boast their high commitment to customer satisfaction as they collaborate to bring entertainment to the comfort of the home.

Board Member for Europe at Deutsche Telekom, Dominique Leroy, said: “...This partnership shows that we’re listening to what our customers want: easy, enjoyable, and satisfying entertainment that fits perfectly with the premium home experience we provide.”

Meanwhile, Vice President of EMEA Partnerships at Netflix, Emma Lloyd, said: “This partnership builds on our strong relationship with Deutsche Telekom and is a great collaborative effort in placing people at the heart of the entertainment experience. We are delighted to… provide consumers an incredible variety of entertainment options from award winning films to fan-favourite series, documentaries, and unscripted programmes from across Europe and beyond.” As more customers patronise Netflix across Europe, content makers who provide their content on the streaming platform can expect a continued increase in viewership over this year.
