Cannes International Series Festival invites Korean Content for the First Time
This is the first and only official invitation of a Korean title given by the Cannes International Series Festival. Expectations for the performance of the acclaimed drama continue to rise. By Ching Wai.
France - The esteemed Cannes International Series Festival, or the Cannes Series, has announced its invitation of the South Korean title TAROT along with South Korean actress Cho Yeo-jeong on 12 March. The festival will run from April 5 to 10 2024. It is a festival that celebrates worldwide drama and series content and is now in its 7th year. The invitation to the Cannes Series’s short film competition section is significant in that it is the first and only official invitation for Korean content.
Praised and celebrated for its artistry with this invitation even before its release, TAROT will premiere exclusively at the Cannes Series with the episode Santa’s Visit starring the Parasite actress Cho Yeo-jeong. Having seven episodes with seven stories, TAROT is a mystery drama series where individuals become trapped in the curse of a distorted Tarot card because of a split-second decision.
TAROT is produced by STUDIO X+U, a telecommunications company that has solidified itself as a leading producer of mid-form media content. The company’s lineup includes successful dramas like High Cookie and Night Has Come, as well as upcoming works like Man in Europe and Branding in Seongsu. Co-producers of the mystery drama series are the film company Woosang and Studio Changchang. They are known for their genre works in movies like Strangers From Hell and Dark Hole. TAROT also sees Choi Byung-gil as the director and Kyung Min-seon as the writer. The former is widely known for his attention to detail and aesthetics in storytelling for dramas like East of Eden, Missing Nine, and High Class.
Korean actress Cho Yeo-jeong continues her Cannes festival journey - having attended the Cannes Film Festival with the movie Parasite, she is now set to attend the Cannes Series following the invitation. Expectations for her performance are high as the series sets up anticipation for her delivery of extreme thrills and mystery.
