Barcelona Unveiled New Streaming Service Barça One

Being a new addition to the variety of existing streaming platforms, FC Barcelona’s Barça One is hoping to be more than the go-to streaming service for the football club’s content. By Ching Wai.

Spain - Barça One is the free ad-supported streaming platform launched by the Spanish top-tier football team FC Barcelona. Registration is not required, but the service offers the option to pay for an ad-free subscription. This option is available to FC Barcelona members for free. Barça One will have over 1 500 hours of content from its current streamer Barça TV+, including archive material, games, shows, reports, and historic content. The global OTT (over-the-top) media service is also offering a new selection of programmes with the latest Barça info. This includes live broadcasts, press conferences, original content and more.

According to the football organisation, Barça One will start broadcasting in the next few weeks as the go-to service for content related to the Spanish football club. Meanwhile, the streaming service has debuted its own original 40-minute documentary film Origins | Araujo on 6 March this year in Espai Texas, Barcelona. The film explores the roots of the Uruguayan defender and former player Ronald Araujo. The feature is inclusive of interviews with those close to Araujo.

This decision to launch a streaming platform expanded from its existing Barça TV+ comes with the football club’s awareness of the trends in entertainment. With culture and audiovisual content becoming more popular, the club stated that the unprecedented move is a “natural and necessary evolution… that will ensure that the club stays at the forefront of the entertainment industry.” FC Barcelona also hopes to benefit from Barça One in terms of income, as well as to gain more international exposure and promotion. With the current trend of subscribing to more than one service in the streaming market, FC Barcelona’s Barça One looks promising. Reception of the new streaming service and its original content remain to be seen.
