Greece’s Open TV to Launch Remake of Turkish Drama Series My Sweet Lie

Greece - Greek television station Open TV has launched Like a Lie, a new romantic comedy drama based on the 2019 hit Turkish drama series My Sweet Lie.

Like a Lie, which is currently airing in the early evening prime access slot on Open TV, had a strong opening, becoming the second-most watched program on Open TV on April 8 2024.

Like a Lie stars Nikos Polyderopoulos (The Tattoo) and Katerina Geronikolou (And Yet I’m Still Here). The series sees a can of worms open after a single father continues maintaining a lie to his daughter that her mother is away travelling but will one day return.

The script rights were licensed to Open TV by Eccho Rights, a Swedish development agent and distributor of drama series. Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights, said the following in a media statement: “This is a unique and brilliant format, with a warm family story at its heart that lends itself perfectly to local adaptation. The original was a huge phenomenon and the Slovakian version has been a returning favourite for the past 18 months, so we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this latest version from our friends in Greece.”

Open TV has now become the second international broadcaster to commission a remake, following the successful Slovalian adaptation for Markiza, Mom for Rent, which has even gotten a second season which is currently airing. In 2023, the Slovak remake was named among CeeTV’s CEE Breakout Hits of the Year.
