AMC Networks Renews The Walking Dead Spinoff

The cable network has ordered second seasons for two of its spinoffs of the hit drama series The Walking Dead. By: Yan Yun

AMC has renewed The Walking Dead: Dead City, which stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffery Dead Morgan, as well as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, starring Norman Reedus. The Walking Dead: Dead City follows Maggie (played by Cohan) and Negan (played by Morgan) as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan. In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, the story sees Reedus’ Daryl wash ashore in France and struggles to piece together his reasons behind how and why he got there.

Dead City premiered this June and quickly became the number one season premiere in the history of AMC+ in terms of its viewership across all new and returning series, including The Walking Dead, with viewership on the streamer and on AMC growing every week. The first season finale will air on July 23, with a second season currently in the works. Meanwhile, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will debut its first season on September 10. The series has been renewed for a second season ahead of its release.

Elsewhere in The Walking Dead universe, the second half of the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead will return this fall, and another spinoff focusing on Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira’s respective portrayed characters, Rick and Michonne, will be debuting next year.

Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, shares, “This next chapter in the Walking Dead Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for Dead City and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favourite character Daryl Dixon coming in September. We can’t wait to bring Dead City fans back to the epicentre of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan. And, ahead of its debut, we’re thrilled to double down on Daryl as we bring the apocalypse to France, transforming Notre Dame, Pont du Gard, and other iconic locales into an apocalyptic landscape unlike anything we’ve seen before.”
