Female Celebrities That Went Behind Bars

Some people place celebrities on a pedestal, thinking that they can never do wrong. However, there have been instances where even Hollywood’s famous women have committed trouble and entered jail because of it. We look at Hollywood’s finest celebrities and the crimes they have done. By: Dylan Low

No one is above the law, including female celebrities that we all know. With celebrities being admired by many, successful and famous as they are, they are oftentimes featured on television, magazine and social media. You would least expect them to cause trouble and feature in jail, but these are some women celebrities that have faced jail time before. 

Paris Hilton

A global entrepreneur and international influencer, Paris Hilton is a prominent name in the television industry, having done film acting and podcasting. She has also built up her own businesses and become a popular name on social media.

Hilton has had a long history in filmography, having started acting at ten as ‘girl on the beach’ in Wishman (1991). Having taken a nine year break, she once again took up a role in drama film Sweetie Pie (2000). 

What made her rise to popularity in the film industry was her reality TV series The Simple Life, where she and her friend Nicole Richie as rich socialites would travel to small towns and live with a farm family, experiencing the lifestyle of doing menial jobs such as cleaning, farming crops and serving food. Alongside her antics in her personal life, she gained much publicity, leading to a second season and various minor roles in Wonderland and House of Wax, etc.

She has however faced jail time, having spent 45 days in prison for violating parole and driving without a license. It was in 2007 when she was found by authorities speeding at 70mph at a 35mph zone, without headlights on as well. She was also driving despite her license being suspended. The judge hence ruled she violated her probation for her former traffic offence and knowingly drove without a license, sentencing her to 45 days in jail. 

Nicole Richie

Formerly one of Paris Hilton’s good friends and co-star of The Simple Life, Richie has a popular filmography reputation, having started acting since young. She has been casted in many mainstream films and series such as Six Feet Under, Chuck and Empire.

She also spent time in jail in the year 2007, although it was only a short 82 minutes behind bars - due to overcrowding of offenders at the time. She was originally scheduled to spend four days in jail, having pleaded guilty for DUI. In addition, she also had a prior agreement to serve a three-year probation term, join an alcohol education program and was fined a sum of $2,048.

Lindsay Lohan

Lohan was known as one of the prominent young stars of the 2000s, having started from a child actor to becoming a popular box office sensation in her later years. She has starred in many blockbuster films in the late 1990s and early 2000s, namely The Parent Trap, Mean Girls and Freaky Friday.

However, her career took a rocky turn in her adulthood having gone through many legal issues which led to her decline in her filmography output. Such controversies involve drunk driving, drug and alcohol abuse which has led to her time behind bars.

Lindsay has had her fair share of time spent in jail, with her issues with drugs, driving under its influence and violating her probation from previous cases. Her first instance was back in 2007, where she was charged for DUI, had possession of cocaine and with a suspended license. 

2010 saw her returning back to jail for 14 days, following a failed probation term from a DUI arrest. The same year saw her return back to jail for part of a day having failed a drug test. In 2011, she spent a further five more hours in jail, having violated probation after being found guilty for stealing jewelry.
