Artificial intelligence in filmmaking and the work of the BFI will be under the spotlight.
The UK
Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee has announced the launch of a
second inquiry into the British film and high-end television industry. This new
inquiry, described as a “sequel” to the previous one, aims to continue
examining the challenges faced by the sector and explore ways to enhance the
UK’s status as a global production hub.
The previous
inquiry, which began in July last year, was cut short by the general election.
However, it achieved significant milestones, including securing tax incentives
for independent films and visual effects. The new inquiry will build on these
successes and address additional topics such as the ethical use of artificial
intelligence in filmmaking and the role of the British Film Institute (BFI) in
supporting the industry.
Dame Caroline
Dinenage, Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, emphasized the
importance of this inquiry in ensuring the British film and high-end TV sector
remains a powerhouse on the world stage. The committee will scrutinize the
government’s vision for the sector and seek to ensure that the UK continues to
attract international productions while developing a skilled workforce.
This inquiry
is expected to provide valuable insights and recommendations to support the
growth and sustainability of the British film and high-end television industry.
