Hollywood’s Director Guild Criticises Hamas Terror Attacks on Israel

The Director’s Guild of America (DGA) has publicly issued a statement condemning the Hamas attacks on Israel, as they have taken a stand to “support the Jewish people”, against the “growing spread of antisemitism in the US and abroad”. By: Dylan Low

DGA has recently released a statement saying, “The DGA unequivocally condemns terrorism and joins the many voices in our community decrying the recent Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel and violence against innocent civilians.

“We stand against the growing spread of antisemitism here in the US and abroad, and remain committed in our actions, words and deeds to supporting the Jewish people.”

With this announcement, the DGA have distinguished themselves to be the first prominent Hollywood guild to communicate about the ongoing strife.

United against terrorism

They are joined by MRC, the studio that produced mainstream Hollywood films such as Saltburn, Fair Play and Knives Out. The film company has issued their support for Israel, with CEO Scott Tenley and co-founders Modi Wiczyk and Asif Satchu sending a note to employees, stating, “MRC condemns in the strongest possible terms the actions of Hamas and all terrorism. Like President Obama, President Biden, Representative Ritchie Torres, leaders of over 50 countries and the entire New York Times Editorial Board – many of whom have criticised Israel in the past – today we stand unequivocally with Israel.

“And we do not forget the millions of Palestinians who crave peace but are under Hamas rule. We stand with you too in the struggle against Hamas.

“There is no moral equivalence for terrorism and there is no hedging on Hamas. You are seeing pure evil play out. We have resources for anyone that wants to send aid to all those affected in Gaza and in Israel.”

This is following US President Joe Biden’s message pledging their support to Israel. “Let there be no doubt: The United States has Israel’s back,” The official announcement from the White House detailed. “We will make sure the Jewish and democratic State of Israel can defend itself today, tomorrow, as we always have.  It’s as simple as that. These atrocities are sickening.”

Hollywood Condemns the Attack

Hundreds of Hollywood celebrities signed an open letter condemning the "barbaric acts" of Hamas fighters who murdered and abducted Israeli civilians in a shocking weekend assault.

Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot, an Israeli, was among film and TV stars on the list, which also included Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Pine, Mayim Bialik, Liev Schreiber, Michael Douglas and Jerry Seinfeld.

"Hamas murdered and kidnapped innocent men, women, and children. They kidnapped and murdered infants and the elderly," the open letter, released by Creative Community For Peace, said.

The letter, which was signed by over 700 people from the world of entertainment, came less than a week after Hamas gunmen killed 1,200 people in Israel and took about 150 hostages in a surprise onslaught launched from Gaza.
