Amazon Prime Video, the worldwide streaming platform which contends with the likes of Netflix and Disney+, has released their monthly schedule to start 2024. We look into their latest content which they have in store. By: Dylan Low
As
another brand-new year begins, many subscribers of Amazon Prime Video are
expectant of the upcoming TV shows and films that the streaming platform will
be showcasing. In January, Amazon Prime Video unveiled a broad collection of
television series and films in multiple genres, where there are various
standout selections for audiences to choose from to kickstart 2024.
For
those looking for a light-hearted comedy series, Role Play would make an
excellent choice. It will premiere on January 12th and feature Kaley Cuoco as
the titular character. She portrays Emma who has two contrasting identities– an
assassin spy and a loving wife to her family. When her partner Dave discovers
her not revealing the whole truth regarding her identity, the plot thickens
when he begins to investigate her career.
Filled
with humorous twists and interesting developments, Role Play is a
blockbuster addition to the streaming service that appeals towards audiences.
Kaley Cuoco will also be producing beside Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona, and
directed by filmmaker Thomas Vincent. Other cast members consist of David
Oyelowo who plays her spouse in the film, Connie Nielsen and Bill Nighy.
Kevin
James: Irregardless, a comedy feature special will
be broadcasted on Amazon Prime on January 23rd. Spanning up to an hour, this
long-awaited programme is accessible to 240 nations and territories globally,
which places spotlight on celebrity comedian and actor Kevin James in his first
ever comedy special.
Showcasing
his known wit and charm, this film presents his unfiltered yet hilarious
perspective of marriage, kids, and the inevitable passage of time. A
family-friendly show, audiences will definitely be entertained by a wide
selection of relatable topics. Actor-director Kevin James will also be
executive producing together with Jeff Sussman, Anthony Giordano and Brady
Nasfell.
A
new series will also make its way to the platform on January 26th, titled
Expats. Based on Janice Y. K. Lee's novel The Expatriates, the series
adaptation follows three American women, who are played by Nicole Kidman,
Sarayu Blue, and Ji-young Yoo, where they all cross paths following a sudden
family tragedy. This six-episode production is centered on the concepts of
blame and accountability, while exploring blurred lines between victimhood and
culpability.
Expats
is directed by Lulu Wang, who is best noted for her 2019 film The Farewell.
This marks her first ever TV project, where she will be also serving as
showrunner and writer. Kidman executive produces alongside Alice Bell, Melanie
Marnich, Daniele Melia, Per Saari, Stan Wlodkowski and Theresa Park. Novel
writer Lee will also be involved in producing the adaptation.
