5 Upcoming Netflix Originals to Watch in April

Have time to kill? Here is a list of some of the most anticipated Netflix shows that will come to the screens in April. By Ching Wai.

US - From rom-coms to docuseries, Netflix has a whole array of shows lined up to be released in the upcoming month. Although they have yet to be released, some of them are already the talk of the town. Let us look at some of the most anticipated Netflix original series that will premiere with their first seasons in April.


1. Parasyte: The Grey


The South Korean horror sci-fi series in which unidentified parasites infect and take control of humans. The live-action series is adapted from the manga series Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Season one will have six episodes, with its first episode premiering on 5 April. The series is directed and co-written by Yeon Sang-ho, and stars Jeon So-nee (from When My Love Blooms), Koo Kyo-hwan (from Peninsula), and Lee Jung-hyun (or Ava).


2. Good Times → animated adult sitcom serving as a reimagining of the original series


The new animated adult sitcom is a reimagining of the original television classic that ran for six seasons in the 1970s. Good Times will follow a new generation of the Evans family as they try to get by in a Chicago housing project. The first episode premieres on 12 April. Co-creators Carl Jones and Ranada Shepard are joined by executive producers Norman Lear, Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, Brent Millar, Erick Peyton, Brent Miller, and Stephen Curry. The cast includes Jay Pharoah, Marsai Martin, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gerald Anthony ‘Slink’ Johnson, and JB Smoove.

3. Crooks

The first season of this German crime drama series will premiere on 4 April. The series sees Charly’s life get disrupted as his past threatens him and his family. Throw a valuable coin and multiple gangs into the chaos and watch Charly’s story unfold. The Netflix original is written by Benjamin Hessler, Marvin Kren, and Georg Lippert, and jointly directed by Cüneyt Kaya and Marvin Kren. Producers of the series are Simone Gandolfo and Laurent Paul, with Viola Films as the production studio. Some of the cast are Frederick Lau, Christopher F. Krutzler, and Svenja Jung.


4. Fiasco


The French comedy series is set to premiere three episodes on 8 April at Canneseries before being released on Netflix on 30 April. With 7 episodes, the series follows young director Raphaël Valande as he makes his first film. Things begin to go south as chaos erupts on set, including a team member trying to sabotage the film. The comedy is created, written and directed by Igor Gotesman, co-created and co-written by Pierre Niney, and stars Niney, François Civil, Gotesman, Géraldine Nakache, Louise Coldefy, Leslie Madina, Pascal Demolon, Juliette Gasquet, Djimo, Marie-Christine Barrault, and Vincent Cassel.


5. I Woke Up A Vampire


The live-action kids series originates from Canada, and has a whopping 16 episodes for its first season. The fantasy-comedy series follows Carmie as she discovers that she’s half human and half vampire, and tries to navigate middle school life.The show is created by Thomas W. Lynch, with executive producers Lynch, Stephanie Betts, Angela Boudreault, Anne Loi, and Josh Schwartz. Sherry King is the producer. The main cast are Kaileen Angelic Chang, Niko Ceci, Zebastin Borjeau, Kris Siddiqi, Jayd Deroche, Delia Lisette Chambers, Aaliyah Cinello, and Charlotte Legult.


Netflix’s global influence is once again highlighted by these five upcoming Netflix originals, which are produced in different regions, from East Asia to Europe to the Americas. With much buzz surrounding these series when news of their premiere dropped, Netflix and Netflix subscribers alike can welcome April with excitement.
