US - The pay that Hollywood actors and actresses receive can vary by the millions. Scarlett Johansson was reportedly paid US$20 million for the theatre release of the Disney film Black Widow (2021) in which Johansson played Black Widow (the actress sued Disney to be paid more after), while Kimiko Glenn was allegedly paid a total of US$27.30 from streaming residuals in 2020 for her role as Brook Soso in Orange Is the New Black. Salary generally depends on the medium of distribution like theatre, television, streaming platforms, etc., the type of role, the level of experience, and even the location. As a result, the pay gap between the lowest salaries and the highest salaries is astounding.

Additionally, with factors that did not exist prior to many acting contracts being signed, like streaming platforms such as Netflix and Disney+, as well as new technologies like AI and immersive technology, coming into play, actors and actresses face new levels of risk of exploitation should they not get compensated for their contributions to film revenue, as with Johansson for Black Widow.

1. Sandra Bullock - US$74 million

With a net worth of US$250 million, Bullock has been paid a jaw-dropping US$74 million for her role in Gravity. The actress starred in other films like The Blind Side, The Proposal, Bird Box, Ocean’s 8, and The Lost City. Bullock is also a producer, with sitcom George Lopez having been executive produced by her.

2. Scarlett Johansson - US$56 million

Johansson has a net worth of US$165 million, and has allegedly received US$40 million in the settlement of the lawsuit over Black Widow. On top of Marvel movies like Black Widow and The Avengers, the actress also starred in films like Jojo Rabbit, The Prestige, We Bought a Zoo and Sing.

3. Margot Robbie - US$50 million

The star of Barbie earned a total of roughly US$50 million for her role in the 2023 film. The actress has a net worth US$60 million. Other film productions Robbie has starred in include The Wolf of Wall Street, the Suicide Squad franchise, and I, Tonya.

4. Angelina Jolie - US$48 million

The actress and filmmaker has a net worth of US$120 million, and has earned about US$40 million for her role in Wanted. Having starred in other films like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the Maleficent franchise and Eternals, Angelina Jolie has made her mark in the film industry.

5. Jennifer Aniston - US$45 million

With a net worth of US$320 million, the actress received over US$1 million per episode for the globally popular sitcom Friends. Her other works include The Morning Show, We’re the Millers, Marley & Me, and Just Go with It.
