Netflix recently showcased its commitment to Southeast Asian cinema with two spine-chilling zombie films: Abadi Nan Jaya from Indonesia and Outside from the Philippines. By: K Dass.

Indonesia – Netflix
is set to release its local horror feature Outside on October 11th, starring
Sid Lucero and Beauty Gonzales. The title was unveiled in the recently
concluded Netflix APAC Southeast Asia Showcase in Fairmont Jakarta, where
award-winning filmmaker and content director Carlo Ledesma joined a panel
alongside other creatives and Netflix content heads from Thailand and Indonesia
to discuss the future of storytelling in the region.
Directed by
Kimo Stamboel, Abadi Nan Jaya promises a thrilling blend of horror and
local folklore. Set in a remote village near Yogyakarta, the film follows a
dysfunctional family running a renowned herbal medicine business. When the
company owner’s attempt to innovate triggers a zombie outbreak, chaos ensues.
The stellar cast includes Eva Celia, Mikha Tambayong, Donny Damara, Dimas
Anggara, Marthino Lio, Kiki Narendra, and Varen Arianda Calief. Premiering
exclusively on Netflix in 2025, Abadi Nan Jaya showcases Indonesian
culture on the international stage.
Outside, directed by Carlo Ledesma, takes us
on a family’s quest for refuge amidst a zombie outbreak. As old traumas
resurface, threatening their survival, the film promises spine-chilling
suspense. Netflix continues to spotlight diverse content from the Philippines,
and Outside is a must-watch for horror enthusiasts.
