Taiwan - Renowned Taiwanese actress Shu Qi,
celebrated for her roles in films like The Assassin and Millennium
Mambo, has completed production on her directorial debut, Girl. This
marks a significant milestone in her illustrious career, transitioning from in
front of the camera to behind it.
Girl is an original story written and
directed by Shu Qi herself. While specific plot details and the cast remain
under wraps, the film is described as a deeply personal project that Shu Qi has
been developing for an extended period. The production was backed by several
prominent companies, including Taiwan’s CMC Entertainment, Wow Momentum, J.Q.
Pictures, and Aranya Pictures. The film is produced by Mandarin Vision, with
Yeh Jufeng, a veteran producer known for his work on A Sun and The
Great Buddha+, serving as the executive producer.
Shu Qi
expressed her excitement about completing the film, stating, "I am so
happy that the filming is wrapped. I look forward to sharing this film with
audiences everywhere". The film is scheduled for release in 2025, and
Mandarin Vision will handle international sales outside mainland China.
Shu Qi’s
transition to directing is a natural progression for the actress, who has had a
glittering career spanning over two decades. She has won multiple Golden Horse
Film Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards, and has served on the juries of
prestigious film festivals such as Berlinale, Cannes, and Venice. Her
directorial debut is highly anticipated, given her extensive experience and
deep understanding of the film industry.
