Nick Brown, who competed on Survivor: The Australian Outback, has accomplished an even bigger feat than sticking around after the latest tribal council. He's been elected to be the state of Washington's attorney general.
Nick Brown, a
former contestant on the reality TV show “Survivor,” has made history by
becoming the first Black person elected as Attorney General in Washington
state. Brown, a Democrat, won the election on November 5, 2024, defeating
Republican Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano.
Brown’s
journey to this historic achievement began long before his appearance on “Survivor:
The Australian Outback” in 2001, where he finished seventh. He holds a
bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
His career includes serving as an officer in the Judge Advocate General Corps
of the U.S. Army, an assistant U.S. attorney, and the U.S. attorney for the
Western District of Washington.
During his
victory speech at the Seattle Convention Center, Brown emphasized his
commitment to defending civil rights, environmental protections, and
reproductive rights. He acknowledged the groundwork laid by his predecessor,
Bob Ferguson, and expressed his intention to build upon those efforts.
Brown’s
election is not only a personal milestone but also a significant moment for
Washington state, reflecting a broader trend towards diversity and
representation in political offices. His unique background, combining legal
expertise and public service, positions him well to address the challenges
ahead and advocate for the rights of all Washingtonians.
