US CTV Platform Usage

Roku and Amazon are the most popular brands of streaming media players purchased, according to a new Parks Associates study.

A recent study by Parks Associates reveals that 65% of US households primarily use three brands for their connected TV (CTV) platforms: Roku, Amazon, and Samsung. Roku and Amazon’s Fire TV are the leading choices for streaming media players, while Samsung dominates the smart TV market with its in-house Tizen OS.

Roku and Amazon have successfully expanded their presence by integrating their platforms into smart TVs, enhancing their overall market penetration. Samsung, despite not offering a separate streaming media player, maintains a strong position due to its significant share in the smart TV market. This dominance is attributed to Samsung’s robust hardware specifications, cohesive user interface, and strong customer service.

Consumers prioritize software capabilities, user experience, and brand reliability when selecting their primary CTV platform. The seamless integration of hardware and software in these brands’ offerings has led to increased brand loyalty and user satisfaction.

The findings will be further discussed at the upcoming Future of Video conference, highlighting the evolving landscape of CTV platforms and the strategies these tech giants employ to maintain their market leadership.
