Kevin Spacey Declared Not Guilty of All Sexual Assault Charges

The Hollywood star had tears in his eyes as he was cleared of all offences at Southwark Crown Court on the same day as his 64th birthday. Speaking after the verdict outside court he said he was "humbled" and "grateful". By: Talia

Kevin Spacey was charged with nine offences against four men who accused Spacey of sexual assault against them over the span of a decade, from 2001 to 2013. Spacey has been acquitted of all nine charges on 26 July, after a four-week trial.

He was seen crying at the dock in London’s Southwark Crown Court when the verdicts were announced. The judge mentioned that the jury deliberated for more than 12 hours.

During his trial, the actor had said the charges against him made “no sense” and described them as “madness” and a “stab in the back”. He wiped tears from his eyes in the witness box as he told jurors his world “exploded” when allegations against him first emerged on the internet in 2017. Spacey also told the court he could have sex “all the time”, described the prosecution’s case against him as “weak”, and claimed his victims were after “money, money and then money”.

Spacey spoke to reporters saying, “I imagine that many of you can understand that there is a lot for me to process after what has just happened today. But I would like to say that I am enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts carefully before they reached their decision and I am humbled by the outcome today.

“I also want to thank the staff inside this courthouse, the security and all those who took care of us every single day, my legal team Evan and Lucy for being here every day, and that’s all I have to say for the moment. Thank you very much,” he added.
