Foxtel’s chief commercial and content officer Amanda Laing has resigned, and will leave the company in September 2024. By Ching Wai.
Australia - Amanda Laing will be stepping down from her role as chief commercial and content officer of Foxtel Group and managing director of BINGE, an Australian streaming service owned by Hubbl, which itself is an all-in-one streaming platform from Foxtel. Laing will be leaving only in September this year to see a smooth transition of leadership.
The resignation comes months before Foxtel’s deal with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) ends. Reportedly, WBD will then be launching its own streaming platform, Max, in Australia in 2025.
The former executive was placed in charge of BINGE and entertainment content deals last year, when Foxtel underwent a restructuring to reshape its executive team. Laing had worked at Foxtel for six years. Previously, Laing had worked at Nine Entertainment, Stan, Sky News Australia, PBL Media and Australian Consolidated Press through her 25-year long career.
Laing said of her resignation, “... We are all lucky to work in an industry that values innovation, creativity, intellect and drive. Harnessing these to deliver revenue and negotiate innovative deals to drive growth for Foxtel Group and its partners has been my focus, and I know the talented teams at the Foxtel Group will continue this work under Patrick’s leadership.”
Patrick Delany, CEO of the Foxtel Group, also commented, “...Amanda has been instrumental to the Foxtel Group’s content strategy and has played a key leadership role in the transformation which has enabled us to launch Kayo, BINGE, Flash and Hubbl during her tenure. Amanda led dozens of negotiations with U.S. studios for content and channel acquisitions, as well as supported the business as a leading executive on our sports rights deals. She has made an outstanding contribution to the growth of subscribers and revenue that the Foxtel Group has seen during her tenure, and I thank her for the commitment and passion she has always brought to her role.”
