Singapore - KC Global Media,
Asia’s leading entertainment network, has made a strategic decision to focus on
growth channels. As part of this portfolio refinement, they will be closing the
linear Japanese channel, GEM, effective on July 31, 2024. The move aims to allocate
greater resources to their established and high-performing channels: AXN (known
for thrilling action and drama), Animax (the region’s leading Japanese anime
channel), and ONE (the premiere platform for Korean entertainment). While GEM
will cease its linear broadcast, it will remain available on demand.
The decision to close GEM was part of a strategic
portfolio refinement by KC Global Media. They aim to accelerate growth across
key markets by focusing on established and high-performing channels like AXN,
Animax, and ONE. While GEM will cease its linear broadcast, it will remain
available on demand.
“This strategic shift allows us to further strengthen our
position as a leader in specific content genres,” said George Chien,
co-founder, CEO and President of KC Global Media. “By focusing on AXN, the
destination for thrilling action and drama; Animax, the region’s leading
Japanese anime channel; and ONE, the premiere platform for Korean
entertainment, we can deliver a more impactful and targeted content experience
for our viewers.”
GEM featured Japanese dramas, anime series, variety
shows, and music programs. Fans of Japanese entertainment could enjoy a mix of
thrilling dramas, captivating animations, and engaging reality shows. While
GEM’s linear broadcast has ceased, its on-demand availability continues to
provide access to this content.
Its popular programmes include, Luther: A gripping
British crime drama starring Idris Elba as maverick detective John Luther.
Wild
Bill:
A British dramedy following U.S. cop Bill Hixon (played by Rob Lowe) as he
settles in Boston, East Lincolnshire. The Little Drummer Girl: Based on

Florence Pugh and Alexander Skarsgård. Greyzone: A
Swedish-Danish thriller where a police officer discovers a fully armed missile
in a suspicious truck. The Victim: A
