BBC and Netflix to Launch New Lockerbie Bombing Docu-Drama Series

Scotland - The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Netflix will join forces to co-produce the six-part series, delving into the joint investigation conducted by Scottish and American authorities following the 1988 disaster.

Pan Am Flight 103, en route from Heathrow to JFK, fell victim to a bomb explosion over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, resulting in the loss of 270 lives. This devastating act of terror marked the worst attack ever witnessed on British soil.

World Productions, renowned for its work on Line of Duty, takes the helm of the series, initially developed by MGM Television and Night Train Media in collaboration with filmmaker Adam Morane-Griffiths.

Notably, this isn't the first series centred around the Lockerbie bombing. Over a year ago, Sky and Peacock embarked on their own project titled Lockerbie, which revolves around a family's quest for justice. Carnival Films is behind the production of this separate series.

For the BBC and Netflix endeavour, the script will be crafted by Jonathan Lee, the acclaimed novelist responsible for High Dive, alongside Scottish screenwriter Gillian Roger Park, who will lend her talent to pen two episodes. The writing will draw on extensive interviews conducted by Adam Morane-Griffiths with Scottish police and U.S. investigative agencies. Additionally, the series will explore the far-reaching impact of the bombing on the people of Lockerbie.

The directorial role will be undertaken by Michael Keillor, known for his work on Best Interests. The impressive list of executive producers includes Simon Heath and Roderick Seligman for World Productions, Steve Stark and Stacey Levin for Toluca Pictures, Adam Morane-Griffiths, Sara Curran, Herbert L. Kloiber, Michael Keillor, and Gaynor Holmes for the BBC. Joe Hill serves as the co-executive producer.
