Infosys Takes Over Liberty's Operations with €1.5 Billion Deal

International broadband and media group Liberty Global has confirmed a new €1.5 billion deal with India-based digital services provider Infosys, which effectively hands over the build and operation of Liberty’s Horizon TV and broadband platform to the tech company. By: Theng Min Yee

Global technology leader Infosys has embarked on a significant venture, assuming responsibility for both the development and operations of Liberty Global's Horizon entertainment and connectivity platforms. The agreement is set to span an initial five years, with the potential for an eight-year extension at a cost of €2.3 billion.

The strategic collaboration between Infosys and Liberty Global is projected to yield substantial benefits. Notably, this partnership is expected to result in ongoing savings exceeding €100 million per year, accounting for various operational efficiencies and technology investments.

As part of the arrangement, Liberty Global will also license these innovative platforms to Infosys, enabling the latter to offer digital services to other operators and new markets beyond the Liberty Global network.

Emphasizing that Liberty Global will retain control over product roadmaps and intellectual property for the Horizon entertainment and connectivity platforms, this partnership is more about enhancing capabilities than ceding control. While Infosys' advanced AI technologies and scalability will undoubtedly contribute to Liberty Global's operational efficiency, the company will maintain a strategic approach to their technology roadmap, including decisions related to AI and AI vendors.

Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global, hailed the partnership's potential impact, stating, "Expanding our collaboration with Infosys allows our market-leading solutions to achieve greater scale, serving more markets and customers with enhanced experiences. This not only brings substantial cost savings in the long run but also offers our talent a chance to nurture their skills and careers."
