The history and story behind the iconic shoe brands, Adidas and Puma, will be unveiled in Disney+’s brand new docuseries. By: Theng Min Yee
Disney+ UK has announced the commissioning of a compelling new docuseries titled World War Shoe: Adidas vs. Puma (working title), shedding light on the legendary rivalry between two iconic sporting brands.
The forthcoming series, set to consist of three episodes, aims to delve into the captivating narrative of the longstanding competition between two brothers, Adi and Rudi Dassler. The unparalleled access granted to both companies will allow viewers to explore how the intense and decades-spanning feud between the Dassler siblings played a pivotal role in shaping the contemporary sportswear industry.
The production of the series is in the capable hands of Matador Content, a subsidiary of Boat Rocker, known for projects like Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, and Studio 99, founded by renowned footballer David Beckham.
Speaking at the esteemed Edinburgh TV Festival, Sean Doyle, Disney+'s director of Unscripted for Original Productions in EMEA, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming series, highlighting that the series' intrigue lies not only in its historical significance but also in the unprecedented access granted to the global sporting giants.
Doyle also unveiled that a stellar lineup of prominent sports figures will contribute to the docuseries, including Usain Bolt, Neymar, and Zinedine Zidane. These luminaries will be joined by influential figures from the world of fashion, such as June Ambrose and KidSuper.
The Disney+ panel at the festival was not only a platform for announcing World War Shoe, but also provided an exclusive sneak peek into the network's forthcoming factual originals for UK audiences. Among the highly anticipated productions are In Vogue, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, and Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, featuring Hollywood icon Keanu Reeves.
