UKTV and BBC Studios have announced a significant joint deal with AMC Networks, securing rights for a range of shows in the UK and Benelux regions. By: Theng Min Yee
The deal struck by UKTV and BBC Studios with AMC Networks sees their portfolio of shows and series expanding, incorporating a variety new content that will offer viewers a wider range of programmes to choose from.
Among the highlights is Mrs Sidhu Investigates, a four-episode series created and written by Suk Pannu, known for The Kumars at No. 42. Adapted from the popular BBC Radio 4 series, the show follows a recently widowed, high-end caterer with a penchant for solving crimes among the affluent residents of Berkshire. The series is set to premiere on Drama and UKTV Play in the coming fall, alongside Signora Volpe. Whitstable Pearl and Darby and Joan will air on the channel in early 2024.
The South Westerlies will have an exclusive premiere on UKTV Play in October, while Dark Winds will also be available to watch on Alibi from the same month.
In addition to these, several other shows, including seasons one and two of The Madame Blanc Mysteries, season three of London Kills, and season two of Queens of Mystery, have been acquired for BBC First in Benelux.
Melanie Rumani, Global Head of Acquisitions at BBC Studios and UKTV, expressed excitement about the expanding portfolio across various channels, highlighting the continued growth with these new additions.
Mike Pears, Executive VP of Distribution and Content Sales for AMC Networks, emphasised the long-standing partnership with the BBC and their commitment to making high-quality content available on various platforms worldwide.
Channel Director for Drama and Alibi, Emma Ayech, welcomed the new titles into their programming lineup, anticipating engaging storytelling, compelling characters, and gripping narratives that will captivate their audiences.
Andrea Amey, UKTV’s General Manager for Digital, added that the addition of these titles to UKTV Play's catalogue of quality drama is a testament to their dedication in providing a diverse array of premium content for all viewers to enjoy freely, expecting them to be a hit with their audience throughout the autumn.
