Cyberpunk 2077 to be Made a Live Action Show

A live-action project is set to be produced based on chart-topping video game Cyberpunk 2077, announced the video game developer CD Projekt Red. By: Dylan Low

CD Projekt Red has announced the development of a live-action show, either in film or series. It is also known that it will be produced by Anonymous Content, the media company that created shows True Detective and Mr Robot, alongside films The Revenant and Spotlight.

The developer went out of its way to note that it’s working closely with certain members of the Anonymous Content team, all of which are heavily involved in the TV side of things.

The developer has reached the Head of Television Garret Kemble and noted Chief Creative Officer David Levine’s decade-long tenure at HBO. Levine was heavily involved with getting Game of Thrones and Westworld on the network, in addition to other hit shows.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a wholly original IP, giving CD Projekt Red a good amount of creative control over how the story plays out. To that end, the developer hasn’t indicated this would be a one-to-one adaptation of the game, rather stating its “set in the world” of Cyberpunk 2077.

The game has already captured Hollywood star power, as Keanu Reeves portrays the main character, Johnny Silverhand. The sequel named Phantom Liberty, which showcases Idris Elba, was recently launched in markets and has sold over 3 million copies.
Netflix has already dropped an Anime series about the game, titled Cyberpunk: Edge runners. Projekt Red’s other popular video game The Witcher has already been made a blockbuster live-action TV series, which just renewed for a fourth season.
