Aaron Sorkin Exit CAA following Maha Dakhil’s Comments on Israel

Aaron Sorkin has announced his departure from Creative Artists Agency (CAA) over the controversial comments made about Israel by agent Maha Dakhil. By: Dylan Low

The Social Network and The West Wing creator will make his return at William Morris Endeavor (WME), where he was previously repped by, until his move to CAA in 2017.

The reputable screenwriter, film director and playwright issued a statement saying, “Maha isn’t an antisemite, she’s just wrong. She’s a great agent and I’m very proud of the work we did together over the last six years. I’m excited to be returning to WME.”

Dakhil also represents popular A-List celebrity clients, namely Tom Cruise, Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway. She recently resigned from CAA’s internal board, and has left her leadership duties of being co-head of the agency’s motion pictures department. She will maintain working with her clients and CAA colleagues while undergoing a personal education process.

The prolific agent underwent criticism when she reposted a statement from an account named Free Palestine, that talks about Israel’s retaliation to the October 7th terror attack from Hamas., “You’re currently learning who supports genocide,” the post read, to which Dakhil added her opinion “That’s the line for me.” She captioned in a second photo, “What’s more heartbreaking than witnessing genocide? Witnessing the denial that genocide is happening.”

After deleting both posts from her social media, she stated in an apology, “I made a mistake with a repost on Instagram story, which used hurtful language. Like so many of us, I have been reeling with heartbreak. I pride myself on being on the side of humanity and peace, I'm so grateful to Jewish friends and colleagues who pointed out the implications and further educated me. I immediately took the repost down. I’m sorry for the pain I have caused.”
