SAG AFTRA and Hollywood Studios Continue Negotiations

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) has continued bargaining with major studios on Sunday. Despite the increasing optimism in the film industry, there has yet to be a finalised deal. By: Dylan Low

The union has just sent their latest proposal to the Hollywood studios on Saturday, as both parties described to be in “productive talks" during the weekend.

One source has detailed that there were “tough conversations” with both sides not having resolved the dilemmas about regulation of artificial intelligence, with another source stating talks were moving in the right direction. However, it is not anticipated that a deal will be reached by Sunday.

The four CEOs of key Hollywood studios including Ted Sarandos of Netflix, Donna Langley of NBCUniversal, David Zaslav of Warner Bros. Discovery, and Bob Iger of Disney have been alerted that time is running out in the 2023-24 season. A few notable films have postponed their 2024 release dates, with the effect of the strike.

The CEOs took part in two days of talks in the past week. They have been observing the negotiations with Carol Lombardini, CEO of Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), representing the studios.
