Netflix Acquires New Kim Kardashian Comedy After Bidding War

The notable streaming platform has come out victorious following a bidding war The Fifth Wheel, a comedy featuring Kim Kardashian. By: Dylan Low

A number of major names including theatrical distributors and streaming players battled out for the film. However, two of the five companies pulled out at short notice, before Kardashian and her two co-writers Paula Pell and Janine Brito signed with Netflix on the dotted line.

Pell, who wrote Saturday Night Live, is producing The Fifth Wheel with Kardashian. The logline has not been revealed, but Kardashian is playing the “fifth wheel” alongside a group of female members. Her co-stars on the show have not been announced yet.

Kardashian, who has created the business which features her loungewear company Skims and starred in the series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, has just gone through her first experiences in the realm of scripted entertainment. She appeared in the latest season of American Horror Story with Emma Roberts. Kardashian will be taking part in her major role as a producer and aims to make use of her influencer popularity to market The Fifth Wheel. With 364 million Instagram followers and featured in a reality show The Kardashians, they can be used to showcase her every move.

Netflix’s purchase of her featured comedy series signifies one of the more prominent sales following the historic SAG-AFTRA strike, which was resolved in November.
