Venom Trilogy Resumes Production After Actors Strike

The cameras are once again rolling for Venom 3, the film’s main star Tom Hardy shared on Instagram. By: Dylan Low

Tom Hardy expressed on social media, saying, “Thankfully we are back to shooting; and I want to take a moment just to thank all the teams thus far on the ride from V1 to here all our fantastic cast and crew- good friends and family – we’ve come a long way.”

He also posted a photo from the Venom 3 set which was stated to be on November 16th, highlighting that the shoot has been ongoing for a few days.

The news follows SAG-AFTRA’s Nov. 8 approval of a tentative agreement concluding the 118-day strike. On the same day the strike ended, Sony Pictures postponed the film’s premiere date by a few months, from July 12, 2024, to November 8. Since Venom 3 stopped all production for a few months, the major budget comic book franchise would not have been completed promptly to its scheduled release. It is a similar situation for major films such as Mission: Impossible 8, where Paramount has put off for almost a whole year to 2025.

Venom 3 arrives after continuous box office successes of 2021’s sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which accumulated $502 million globally, and 2018 first film Venom that earned $856 million globally. Kelly Marcel, who wrote the first two films, will also be directing and writing the trilogy.

“I want to mention very briefly how proud of my director, writing partner and dear friend Kelly Marcel. Watching you taking the helm on this one fills me with pride, it is an honour. Trust your gut, your instincts are always spot on. First class – I back you.” Hardy commended Marcel in his post.

As Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as journalist Eddie Brock and his notorious sidekick parasite Venom, the trilogy plot has been kept unrevealed. Ted Lasso actor Juno Temple and 12 Years a slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor joins the cast in unknown roles.
