Cannes Award recipient Tiger Stripes Grosses Major Deals following Controversy

Malaysian Oscar entry film Tiger Stripes has obtained deals for key territories such as the US, UK and France, before its MENA screening in the Red Sea Competition at Red Sea International Film Festival this December. By: Dylan Low

The film has been distributed to Dark Star Pictures in North America, Modern Films in UK-Ireland, Jour2Fete in France, Flamingo Films in Spain, Screenxcope in Australia-New Zealand, Vedette in Beneleux, Fenix Filmes in Brazil, AUD in South Korea, AS Fidalgo Film Distribution in Norway and Proview Entertainment in Taiwan. Films Boutique manages global sales.

The debut feature movie of Malaysian producer Amanda Nell Eu, Tiger Stripes received the Grand Prize in Critics’ Week at Cannes back in May, and was selected to represent Malaysia for the Oscars in October.

Last week, Eu took down an amended version that was showcased in her home country, releasing a statement in which she clarified “the very essence of why I made this film has been removed.”

Tiger Stripes is a joint production by eight countries, between Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, France, Germany, Netherlands, Indonesia and Qatar, initiated by Malaysian producer Foo Fei Ling. The fantasy film showcases an 11-year-old girl who finds out a horrifying secret about her body, and learns to cherish herself when shunned by school friends.

The film showcases on the Imax screen on Tuesday, December 5 at 3.55pm, before a second broadcast the next day at 8.40pm, both taking place at the Red Sea Mall.
